A Truly Magical Place

From my first visit to Gettysburg in 2002, I was entranced with its beauty, its majestic views, its 6,000 acres of battlefield.  Captivating civilian stories and accounts of thousands of brave men and women (yes, there were women!) who gave their last full measure of devotion on these fields.

There is no place like home in Gettysburg. This town has so much to offer in the way of food, history, great shopping, museums, NPS talks, antique hunting, period music, wineries and battlefields at the finger tips of every local and visitor. Gettysburg may be a small town, but we’re big on ideas, creativity and an endless amount of things to do to enhance the visitor’s experience.  I’m proud to live here and excited about sharing this precious gem with visitors and locals alike.

I’ve combined a lifetime of learning as a prior business owner of several companies as well as 20 plus years as an Event Planner.  I can’t think of a better way to combine the elements of the things that I love best – people, food & wine and events!

I hope you enjoy your tour, and if you do, pass along the good word to others. I also hope your visit to Gettysburg ignites a curiosity to learn more about this truly fascinating place. While on our tour, I invite you to create your own Gettysburg experience based on the wonderful people you will meet during your stay here and the fine food establishments that you’ll encounter.  As I always say, there’s no better way to learn about a town than to eat your way through it!

Bon Appetit!

Alicia Handa SGFT Tour Guide

Alicia Handa left New York in 2016 for a fresh start. Given her love of history, especially the Civil War, Gettysburg was her obvious choice. She loves learning all aspects of the battle, military and civilian, and how these events shaped the Gettysburg of today. Alicia is an online advertising manager for an event production company in NY and since March of 2018 became a docent at the Shriver House, giving the civilian’s account of those three days in July 1863. She joined Savor Gettysburg Food Tours in June of 2018 to share her love of Gettysburg’s incredible food and wine scene as well as giving folks a different part of our town’s history.

Maryann Oelkers SGFT Tour Guide & Town Tour Guide

Maryann Oelkers and her family moved to Gettysburg from the Philadelphia area upon her retirement from nursing in 2009.  Here she found the perfect outlet for her interest in history – in particular, how the Battle of Gettysburg impacted the citizens of the town.  Since 2010 she has been a town guide and gives talks to groups on the civilian experience.  She also works part-time on the Visitors Services Team for the Gettysburg Foundation at the National Military Park Visitors Center, and part-time for Destination Gettysburg, the local convention and visitors bureau.
